How to Get Your Business Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI
Customers now ask ChatGPT and Google AI who to hire. Here is what makes an AI name one business over another, and the steps that get you into the answer.

Short answer: AI tools recommend businesses they can clearly understand and that other trusted sites agree about. To be named, answer your customers' real questions plainly on your own website, keep your business details identical everywhere, collect reviews, and get mentioned on sites the AI already reads, like local news, directories and industry lists.
More people now skip Google's list of links. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity, "Who is the best wedding photographer in Sri Lanka?" and get three names. If you are not one of them, you do not lose a click. You lose the whole conversation, and you never even know it happened.
How does ChatGPT decide which businesses to recommend?
It does not have a secret ranking. It searches the web, reads a handful of pages, and repeats what those pages agree on. A business gets named when several sources describe it the same way: what it does, where it works, and why people like it. Vague, inconsistent or missing information gets skipped.
What should your website say so AI can quote it?
Write the way you would answer a customer face to face.
- Say what you do and where in the first sentence of each service page: "We repair car air conditioning in Kandy, same day."
- Use real questions as headings, then answer in the first one or two sentences under each.
- Add prices or price ranges, timeframes and what is included. AI loves specifics.
- Add an FAQ section with schema markup, so the questions and answers are easy to lift.
Why do other websites matter so much?
AI trusts what others say about you more than what you say about yourself. Mentions in local news, industry directories, "best of" lists, review sites and partner websites all count, even without a link. Aim for a few strong mentions on sites your customers would recognise, not hundreds of weak ones.
Do reviews affect AI recommendations?
Yes. Google AI and other tools read review platforms and summarise what customers say. Many recent reviews that mention specific services, like "fixed our leaking roof before the monsoon", give the AI clear reasons to recommend you for that exact need.
What should you do this month?
- Ask ChatGPT and Gemini your top five customer questions and record who gets named.
- Rewrite your main service page so the first two lines answer the question directly.
- Make your name, address, phone and description match on every profile.
- Ask five happy customers for a detailed review.
- Pitch one local publication or directory that ranks for your service.
This is the work we do under GEO, AEO and AIO. If you want to see where you stand first, ask for a free growth audit and we will show you which competitors the AI names instead of you.
